My New Vlog! My First Time on T.V.
I’m going to be honest and tell you I don’t really know what I’m doing. I know music, how to sing, how to perform but this is my first go at doing it full-time. I’ve tried over the years and failed numerous times. My journey has been up and down and suffice it to say, there have been times when I prayed for a new dream, something more attainable, something doable. As you can see it never worked, I’m a singer and it’s part of my genetic make up. I’m also courageous and a pursuer, a part of my spiritual make up. All in all, I created a video blog to chronicle milestones in my musical journey and this is the first I’ll air. They are from different moments (recording, performing, pondering etc.) but they all come from a honest space and a desire to share my journey. I hope my honesty inspires someone onward toward their goal and I hope this gives you a deeper look into who I am and what I’m doing out here. Enjoy! Comment and Subscribe!
This is from earlier in the year, Rick Rigsby, “The Funkmeister” hired me to sing as a part of his Stop Six Band, we were helping raise money for the children of a woman who’d suddenly died from Leukemia. I had to honor of singing with Joseph Vincelli, Joel McCray, Pockett Brown and of course Rick Rigsby. On the night of the event I got to sing with Yarborough and Peoples singing one of my all time favorite songs, “Don’t Stop The Music” It was a magical string of events and it confirmed my belief that I should keep striving.#keepstriving

Bio Remixed
I knew when I was ten
Carried a flame in my backpack
Hidden from disapproval
After service empty
Baptist church
Filled with the unruly ghosts Left at the altar
I Shy
Screamed my heart into a Pulpit Mic
Lost my mind in the word Gave
Followed with laughter from Afar
reprimand
Silence
I Muted
Occasionally I was a whisper
A long sigh
But I loved Sound,
Sound was essence
I became a master listener
Obsessing over my voice
Praying for The Power
Push my thoughts through Lips
Paralyzed
Having words to sew
Sorrows to project
Yet a mouth that craves solitude
Too fearful of failure
Too unsure/insecure/delicate for shame
Of ridicule and confirmation Of fears exaggerated
Secret Songstress
Golden baby Hidden
Behind my eyes
Humming
When my heart
Belts
Muting the raging call of freedom
Shut eye free falling in Drama classes
Simple ditties for easy audiences
Harnessing a Hurricane in my heart
Spinning, crashing, bubbling
Indigos, canary yellows, chartreuse, fuchsia,
To electric white
Radiating from the marrow
of my soul
An eruption of eternity . . .
You are My Peace of Mind
A novice guitarist strummed her guitar
Into spirit and sang my Conviction
That old me is left behind
Naked
She sobbed
bellowed me
Into submission
Exposed,
Prostrate
I agreed to open my mouth
27 hours later
Head shaven
Cage Fear in hindsight
Chains, Locks crumbled
I
Became myself
ALL of me
Newly birthed I began
Lips Enlivened by Love
Freed the sound from my spirit
Large Blue Notes, Ba da ba da dee Hum Painstaking Chest voice , old negro hymnic agonystic ,
Grass Roots Operatic, Hip Hope infused sound
Light, airy, modern mascufemme disposition gone frilly and soft
At this utterance, Teachers stood in agreement
My innermost notes
were worthy
microphone, amplifier, ear
Today I am whole
And living in Mind, Body, Soul, Spirit and Sound
Out and Loud
